SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Sea Turtle Inc. is preparing for a second and more intense cold-stunned turtle influx this winter season.
Sea Turtle Inc. is urgently preparing and responding to the rapid plunge in temperatures that has occurred for the second time in the last two weeks.
Cold stun events are life-threatening to turtles. As the water temperature drops to dangerously low temperatures, sea turtles lose the ability to regulate their body temperature.
A cold-stunned turtle is awake but completely immobile and unable to swim. Without immediate rescue, they can drown due to them not being able to lift their heads above water to breathe.
