SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Don't know what to do with your Christmas tree? Recycling it may be the way the way to go!
You can help the community by recycling your Christmas trees at your local non-profit, such as Sea Turtle Inc.
Today, Saturday, Jan. 4, is the last day the organization is accepting tree donations to help rebuild sand dunes and protect the sea turtle corral.
Trees will be collected at Sea Turtle Inc. headquarters located at 6617 Padre Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All donated trees should be free of tinsel and decorations before they are dropped off.
Other drop-off locations
Other locations that are accepting Christmas tree recycling are the Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department and the McAllen Recycling Center and Composting Facility.
Residents in Brownsville can drop off their trees from two locations open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from now until Jan 15. at Gonzalez Park and Oliviera Park.
Residents are asked to remove decorations from the tree including lights, ornaments, tinsel, ribbons, snow and garland.
The McAllen Recycling Center and Composting Facility are also collecting trees until the end of January.
Like the other locations, all decorations must be removed from the trees before they are donated. For more information contact the City of McAllen Recycling Center at (956) 681-4050.
