San Benito shop with a cop brings holiday cheer to students

SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The San Benito Consolidated Independent School District ACE After-School Program held its inaugural Shop With A Cop on Tuesday.

The event was held at the Walmart of San Benito with local law enforcement and over 150 students from San Benito schools participating.

"The driving force behind it is community and letting our kids know our police officers are our friends and they're there for you, school employees are your friends. The community is here to support and rally behind all of our students," said Nancy Casas, director of After-School Programs for San Benito CISD.

Multiple law enforcement agencies such as San Benito CISD Police, the San Benito Police Department, the Brownsville Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Texas DPS, the FBI, and area fire departments took part in the event.

Casas added that this year was a success raising close to $17,000 and are looking to make next year's event more successful.
