BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville Police Department swore in five new officers and a fire marshal on Wednesday.
The department referred to the ceremony as a historic event for the city and the police department. This is the first cohort of Brownsville officers to graduate from the in house police academy.

"This achievement represents our commitment to developing and mentoring future officers with the highest standards of training, right here within the Brownsville Police Department," the Brownsville Police Department stated. "By investing in our own academy, we ensure that our officers receive the best preparation, guidance, and values needed to serve and protect our community with excellence."
Among the new officers are Marco Antonio Betancourt, Roberto Ramirez III, Jocelyne Rodriguez, Marcelo Muehlberger and Jesus Lozano.
Jose Luis Garcia Jr. was also sworn in at the ceremony as a Fire Marshal.
The Brownsville Police Department wishes these graduates the best and looks forward to the work they will do for the community.
