McAllen Rowe head football coach Robert Flores has elected to step down from both positions, effective immediately, McAllen ISD announced in a news release Friday.

Coach Flores served in both capacities for the past nine seasons. He began his coaching career 25 years ago at Rowe, the same school where he played football and graduated from in 1995.

“After careful consideration, I feel it is in the best interest of my family to step down,” Flores said. “I am grateful for the opportunity and the experience I have gained in my time at Nikki Rowe High. I appreciate the support and collaboration over the years from my coaching staff, administration, parents and, most of all, my student athletes.”

Flores led Rowe to six playoff appearances during his nine seasons as head coach and posted a 49-44 record during that span. The Warriors finished the 2024 season 3-7 overall and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

McAllen ISD has already started the search for a new head football coach and athletic coordinator to lead the Rowe’s athletic program, the news release states.

“We deeply appreciate Coach Flores for his hard work and leadership in orchestrating Rowe athletics and Rowe football,” McAllen ISD superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez said. “We wish him the very best in his future.”
