HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The woman who was attacked by a shark at South Padre Island has announced an update on her road to recovery.
Tabatha Sullivent has stayed in hospital bedrest at DHR Health in Edinburg following the attack after a shark bit off a chunk of her calf.
Sullivent has undergone a skin grafting surgery with regular visits to therapy to assist the recovery process.
On August 7, Sullivent shared an update of her walking for the first time since the Fourth of July shark attack.
"Very busy day today. First day to walk, or try to anyway," Sullivent announced on her social media page.
In the video, Sullivent can be seen on a walker with the guidance of two DHR Health specialists.
Tabatha tearfully shares she was able to walk a distance of 52 feet with zero falls.
"It was very emotional. I have a long way to go, but I will get there. Work hard and rest. That’s what I need right now. This is my journey today, baby steps," Sullivent said.
ValleyCentral reached out to Tabatha Sullivent for comment but have yet to hear back.
