REYNOSA, Tamaulipas – COBIFER members learned all about the new RioPlex marketing initiative at a meeting at Grupo Río San Juan on July 24.

And they liked what they heard. Indeed, the Q&A portion of the meeting went on for an hour and 15 minutes, with members wanting to know more and expressing their support.

RioPlex, created by the CEO Group and adopted by Hidalgo County Prosperity Task Force, is a branding campaign to promote the Rio Grande Valley and northern Tamaulipas to potential investors from around the world. The campaign has quickly won the support of the business leaders in the Rio Grande Valley, the Council for South Texas Economic Progress (COSTEP) and the Rio Grande Valley Partnership.

COBIFER stands for Consejo Binacional de Fomento Económico de Reynosa. It comprises business and chamber leaders in Reynosa, along with representatives from universities and some government agencies.

More than 30 COBIFER members attended the meeting to watch and hear presentations from Mario Reyna, Adam Gonzalez, and Sergio Gracia.

Reyna is the point person for the Prosperity Task Force. Gonzalez is CEO of COSTEP. Gracia is publisher of Mexico Industry. Reyna gave an overview, Gracia presented a pdf showing the assets the RioPlex region has, and Gonzalez explained why COSTEP backs the branding initiative.

COBIFER’s president is Luis Cantu.

“We held this meeting to basically trademark this region under the RioPlex brand,” Cantu said. “We were hoping our members would acknowledge they are part of the project so we can go out and sell it. And they did, enthusiastically.”

Cantu said the reality is that northern Tamaulipas and the RGV are one region.

“We have a unique location, a unique infrastructure. It is just that we never figured out how to put it all together. Now, through RioPlex, we have the tool we need to go out and sell it the proper way.”

The presentations and the Q&A were conducted in Spanish, naturally enough. Here, below, are video recordings of the presentations by Reyna and Gonzalez. Below the videos is an audio recording of part of Cantu’s remarks, plus the entire Q&A.
