Rio Grande City secures $2.5M in federal funds

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Two million dollars in federal funding has been secured for Rio Grande City Public Safety.

On Monday, $2,509,264 in federal funding were allocated toward Rio Grande City's public safety infrastructure and operations.

This comes after the city was granted federal funds in 2023 through Community Project Funding. The city used the funds to assist with operations associated with its new Public Safety Building and Emergency Shelter.

The money was used to purchase new vehicles, communication systems, furniture, and equipment for the police and fire departments in Rio Grande City.

With the funds, the city purchased 13 new vehicles including three pickup trucks for the fire department, nine for the police department and a compact SUV for police communications officers.

Additionally, the city used the money for the new Public Safety Building's sprinklers, video surveillance, lockers, new doors, furniture, an elevator, new diesel generator, radio systems, uniforms for the fire department, heaters and more.
