HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Triple digit heat will bake the Valley Thursday, pushing daytime high temperatures past 100 for everyone except those along the coast.

A heat advisory will be in effect from 1 pm until 7 pm Thursday for inland Cameron and Willacy counties.

Sun and southerly winds are the usual suspects when its hot but high pressure is also providing sinking air across our area and that helps to warm the air further.

Temperatures will be hot, but the heat index will be hotter. The heat index is the temperature reflecting what it actually feels like to your body with temperature and humidity together. The forecast is calling for the Heat index to push past 110°.

All record highs for the RGV, for Thursday, will likely be broken. Daily records show the following records: Brownsville 97°, Harlingen 100°, and McAllen 103°. The forecast is calling for temperatures to push 5 to 7 degrees above those figures.

If you have to work, or plan to play, outdoors please take frequent breaks and drink lots of water. Please be sure to check on the pets and be sure they have shade and water too.
