Coast Guard search for 13 year old girl on SPI

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The U.S. Coast Guard, along with several local agencies, are searching for a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing this morning after swimming at South Padre Island.

At 7:15 a.m., the Coast Guard received word about the disappearance of the teenage girl. Preliminary information revealed that she was taken in by the rip current near Beach Access 5.

The Coast Guard has deployed rescue teams with a helicopter and boat, in search of the teenager. Local entities are also assisting in the search.

Authorities say it is not clear whether the girl is a local.
