HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Reyna's BBQ and Cocina hosted its seventh annual back-to-school supply drive, where they helped the community get started for the upcoming school year.

The restaurant gave away backpacks containing many school supplies such as markers, notebooks, crayons, and rulers.

Zeke Reyna, operator of Reyna BBQ and Cocina told ValleyCentral, that they began the supply drive in 2018 when many residents suffered from a horrible flood in June.

"Back in 2018, when we had the flood, I saw all the damage that was done, and we had all the food in the restaurant, so we decided to make some sandwiches and chips and give them to the first responders," Reyna said. " Fast forward, it was a good idea to give back to the community, because at the end of the day it's always about giving back, that's our very core value of who we are and what we stand for."

Reyna added, that reactions from the community and volunteers have been great, and in one hour they have given away 600 backpacks to the community.
