EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Region One Education Service Center introduced 200 students to hospitality and tourism career paths Thursday.

The learning experience was powered by the Perkins Innovation and Modernization Program and prepared students with the skills to enter the workforce in careers like event management, restaurant entrepreneurship and hotel ownership.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Hospitality and Tourism Management Program helped explain these fields to students from small and rural school systems.

"We want students to get an idea of the hospitality and tourism industry," said Eliza Alvarado, Director of Partnerships and Career Pathways at Region One Education Service Center. "We want to expose them to all the different restaurants, hotels and service agencies that are here and we want them to be able to understand the different opportunities that they have available for them."
