A guilty verdict was handed down Friday in the 197th state District Courtroom of Judge Adolfo Cordova in Brownsville for Antonia Villarreal Gonzalez, grandmother of Jesse Harrison Jr.

Harrison was the Sebastian teenager who died Jan. 23, 2021, as the result of beatings, torture, starvation and lack of medical attention, according to the criminal indictment of three family members.

Gonzalez was 56 at the time of the boy’s death.

Gonzalez received two 45-year sentences, on a murder charge and child abuse charges, to run concurrently, as well as sentences on lesser charges, all to run concurrently for a total of 45 years.

Assistant Cameron County District Attorney Lucia Regalado prosecuted Gonzalez’s case.

Next to be tried is the boy’s mother, Sabrina Lynn Loredo, who was 33 at the time.

Ruben Gonzales Cordoba, the grandmother’s boyfriend, was tried, convicted and sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison after an August trial in Judge Cordova’s courtroom. He was found guilty of a lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide.

Defense Attorney John Blaylock is representing the two women.
