Raising awareness of coronary artery disease

2 months ago 50

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Coronary artery disease is the most common type of heart disease. It accounts for approximately 610,000 deaths annually in the United States.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in 20 U.S. adults aged 20 and older have the life-threatening disease.

If left untreated, coronary artery disease can lead to other heart conditions, some of which are life-threatening, including cardiogenic shock, heart attack, heart failure, and arrhythmia.

February is American Heart Month and South Texas Health System is raising awareness of coronary artery disease.

Their latest episode of South Texas Healthy Living is dedicated to the disease and will air Sunday at 11 a.m. on NBC 23.
