PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Back-to-school season is here and school districts across the Rio Grande Valley are preparing students and parents for the year ahead.

The Pharr San Juan Alamo Independent School District welcomed families Thursday to attend their 13th Annual Back to School Expo.

"The expo is about bringing our community, our parents, our students out to begin the school year," said Rowdy Vela, principal of PSJA Early College High School.

PSJA ISD offers the expo as an opportunity to meet campus leaders, register for classes, get immunizations, purchase uniforms and claim free school supplies.

Families were also given the chance to meet with district departments including Transportation, Child Nutrition, Athletics, Fine Arts and Pupil Accounting.

"These expos really provide access to our families and to our parents," Vela continued. "It's a one stop shop for parents and students to take care of all of their needs before they start school in late August."

To further prepare for back-to-school season, PSJA ISD will provide all students with free drawstring bags that include basic school supplies on the first day of school.

The first day of school for PSJA ISD is Monday, August 26.
