PORT ISABEL, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Point Isabel Independent School District employee was booked into jail this weekend on new charges.
Omar Vera was arrested in February on five counts of distribution of harmful material to a minor. On Saturday, he was booked into the Cameron County Jail on two new charges: indecency with a child and child grooming.
According to previous ValleyCentral reports, Vera was employed as a paraprofessional at Port Isabel High School. He has since been terminated.
His bond was initially set at $25,000. For his new charges, Vera was issued a $50,000 bond.
“The Point Isabel ISD will continue to cooperate fully with the investigating agencies involved in this case as the investigation proceeds,” the district announced in a statement.
