RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — In 2004 the Rio Grande Valley experienced the rare but beautiful phenomenon of a White Christmas.
Across the Valley, residents experienced 3.5 to 1.5 inches of snow on Dec. 25, 2004. In a place known for sand, this was the rare experience of "snow at the beach."
According to the National Weather Service, this was a historical recording of snowfall in the Valley, caused by a rare combination of weather events in late December of 2004.

Families captivated these precious moments of a White Christmas in the 956. From making snow angels, to snowball fights, to snowmen, these moments were captured on digital cameras.
This historical weather event made residents feel like this was the most magical Christmas to date.
Before the 2004 snowfall it had been 100 years since the RGV saw snow.
For the 20th anniversary of the 956 Winter Wonderland, ValleyCentral wants to highlight your photos and memories of this rare occurrence.
Even though this year's Christmas forecast is not indicative of snowfall, we can reminisce about the miracle of snow from 20 years ago.
