PHARR, Texas – The president of Pharr Economic Development Corporation President is to meet with key logistics leaders to gather information on the trends they see happening in U.S.-Mexico trade.

Victor Perez says the analysis of these “esteemed leaders in their field” will be crucial as he budgets for the year ahead, one that will see the opening of the second span of the Pharr International Bridge.

“One of the things I want to know for the upcoming year, now with the expansion of the bridge… I need to see from a logistics standpoint what these experts see coming. What they are recommending as far as logistics is concerned,” Perez said.

“We have these investors of cold storage facilities and dry facilities. We want to make sure that we prepare ourselves. Whatever they need, we need to start doing it now and planning it right now.

“We work our budget every year and it kicks off October 1. I want to make sure, is there anything they see that we are going to have to accommodate or assist with.”

Asked to name a few of these key logistics leaders, Perez said: “Carlos Canales, Joaquin Spamer, Ramon Mery, Robert Tudor. We need to come together.”

Canales is president of Trancasa USA. Spamer is president of Commodities Integrated Logistics. Mery is CEO of Lakeway Produce. And Tudor is the owner of Rapid Transport, United Truck Parts, and Dura Trucks.

Perez said he will also invite U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz as he is a member of the U.S. Commerce Committee. Perez said he is impressed that Adrianeli Gomez, Cruz’s regional director for South Texas, has been coming to recent Pharr EDC groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

“Senator Cruz is an important member of the Commerce Committee. Well, guess what, south Pharr is all about commerce. I want to invite him. He may not be familiar with what is going on and, more importantly, with our expanded bridge, what is coming.”
