PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral)—The Pharr Fire Department is offering tips on protecting homes from fires that may break out due to holiday decorations.
Pharr Fire Marshall Manuel Renta said the most common source of fire is Christmas lights and overloaded sockets.
"Be careful with the outlets you're using," said Renta. Make sure they are properly secured and not overloaded. Don't let your tree go without water, and make sure it's hydrated so it won't dry out and easily catch fire."
Renta added that consumers should be aware of the fire rating given to real and artificial trees.
