PD: Man punches officer in face twice while being booked into jail

SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man is facing several charges after allegedly punching an officer in the face while being booked into jail, police said.

Johnny Ray Gonzalez was arrested on one count of escape causing bodily injury, two counts of assault of a public servant and one count of assault causing bodily injury.

According to police, Gonzalez was arrested on a warrant for assault. While being transported, Gonzalez attempted to escape from the officer, police added.

Once he was in the booking area, Gonzalez became aggressive again as officers removed his handcuffs. Gonzalez then allegedly fought with the officers, punching one of them in the face twice.

Records show that Gonzalez was booked Friday and his bond was set at $500,000 for the two counts of assaulting a public servant and escape causing bodily injury.
