PD: Man arrested in connection to burned body found near FM 511 in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was arrested in connection to a woman's body that was found burning near FM 511 in Brownsville last year, police said.

Michael Angelo Culvert was arrested on charges of abuse of a corpse without legal authority, tampering with physical evidence and failure to report a felony, jail records show.

Police told ValleyCentral that Culvert was arrested on several active warrants, stemming from the killing of 25-year-old Kassandra Yvette Roquemore.

BPD: Suspect charged in murder, burning of woman found on FM 511

On Feb. 20., 2023, Roquemore's body was found in an open field near FM 511. Police stated that Roquemore had been shot at a different location and then set on fire.

On April 11, 2023, Brownsville police arrested the first suspect, 29-year-old Javier Hernandez Jr., on charges of murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Shortly after, police arrested a second suspect, Mary Bodden, on charges of abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and failing to report a felony.

According to Police, Hernandez killed Roquemore at a different location, and then received help from Bodden to remove the body and take it to the field, where it was set on fire.

Both Bodden and Hernandez were jailed at the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito on unrelated charges when detectives obtained warrants for their arrests.

Hernandez's bond was set at $1,030,000.

Police said that Culvert was taken into custody at a port of entry after entering the U.S. from Mexico. His role in the alleged killing was not immediately available.
