PD: Man accused of leaving girlfriend with bruises and burns

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A 43-year-old Edinburg man was arrested Tuesday in connection to assaulting his 25-year-old girlfriend, police say.

Jorge Luis Ramos is facing a charge of aggravated assault after investigation revealed he left his girlfriend with several injuries.

Police responded to the domestic case on Tuesday night at the 1500 block of N. Sugar Rd. after a third party contacted authorities.

At the scene, Ramos told police everything was fine and that an unknown person assaulted his girlfriend.

During the investigation, officers spoke with the woman who displayed visible bruising, swelling to her face and cigarette burns on her body.

Further investigation revealed Ramos was the person responsible for the assault. Police say Ramos held his girlfriend against her will and inflicted serious harm.

Officers immediately placed Ramos under arrest. Ramos was arraigned at the Edinburg Municipal Court on Thursday and received a $150,000 bond.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and is now receiving the support and resources to aid in her recovery.

Police say additional charges may be made against Ramos as the investigation continues.
