MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen Holiday Parade is just days away and the city has already begun announcing road closures in anticipation of the holiday traffic.
The city is reminding residents that continued lane and road closures along Bicentennial Blvd. and 23rd St., from La Vista Ave. to Pecan Blvd. are necessary for the safety of the participants and over 265,000 attendees.
Road closures will begin on Friday and continue in phases through Saturday around McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Traffic and Engineering staff will be working diligently throughout the week to prepare the parade route. The city asks residents for patience while traveling along Bicentennial Blvd.
Starting 9 a.m. Friday the outer lanes along Bicentennial Blvd., from La Vista Avenue to Pecan Blvd., will be closed. At 6 p.m. there will be a full closure of Bicentennial Blvd. between the same limits.
Additional closures along Bicentennial Blvd. and 23rd St. will continue in phases throughout the day Saturday leading up to the parade start time.
This section of Bicentennial Blvd. will reopen at 1 a.m. Sunday.
On Parade Day
Attendees to Christmas in the Park and McAllen Holiday Park should take the free Polar Express Park & Ride starting at noon on Saturday.
Attendees can park at South Texas College on Pecan Boulevard and take the City of McAllen Polar Express buses that will drop them off along 23rd St. at Quince Ave. Strollers, wheel chairs, picnics and service animals are allowed.
The Polar Express Park & Ride will continue through midnight.
