McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An off-duty Hidalgo County deputy rescued a man from a burning mobile home.
At approximately 10:27 p.m. on Saturday, an off-duty HCSO deputy was going home and saw flames coming from the room of a mobile home on 29th Street, south of Business 83.
According to a news release from HCSO, when the deputy discovered there was a person inside the burning home, he went inside and found a man on the floor.
The deputy pulled the homeowner to safety. The McAllen Fire Department, McAllen Police Department, and EMS arrived at the scene.
The fire was extinguished before it reached the neighboring homes, and both the deputy and the homeowner were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The deputy was treated for smoke inhalation and has been released. According to the release, the homeowner was transferred to a burn unit in San Antonio for further care.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
