A Laredo couple was arrested Saturday in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a Harlingen teen dead earlier in the month.
The victim was previously identified as Harlingen resident Kayden Schwartz, 15.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said in its latest update that Rodolfo Ruiz Jr., 45, and his wife Lluliana Milera Ruiz, 43, were served with warrants Saturday by DPS special agents in Laredo.
The duo and their attorney contacted the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office the day after the incident occurred, where they informed the office that Rodolfo was the driver and Lluliana was the passenger of the truck involved in the crash, according to DPS.
The crash happened Feb. 9 at about 3:03 a.m. on FM 1846 near County Road 578 in San Benito.
DPS previously stated that a bicyclist, later identified as Schwartz, was traveling northbound on FM 1846, when an unknown vehicle also traveling the same direction struck the bicyclist from behind.
The agency had also said the vehicle left the scene without rendering aid to Schwartz, who died at the scene.
Rodolfo was arrested for collision involving death and tampering with/or fabricating evidence and Milera was arrested for failure to report a felony, with DPS adding that they have been transported to the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center.
