Family Wellness Clinic at South Padre Island affiliated with Harlingen Medical Center, provides convenient primary care
HARLINGEN – A new healthcare clinic has opened on South Padre Island, providing medical treatment for minor fractures, cuts, stings, illnesses and other medical problems, as well as providing behavioral health services.
The Family Wellness Clinic at South Padre Island is located in an existing clinic building at 3401 Padre Blvd., Suite A, South Padre Island, 78597 (on the bay side of Padre Boulevard, at the corner with W. Bahama Street … next to Josephine’s Kitchen and one block south of Whataburger).
A grand opening for the clinic was held on Nov. 13. The clinic, affiliated with Harlingen Medical Center, will enhance care for residents and visitors of the Island and nearby communities. The clinic provides basic primary care services, with walk-in patients welcome, as well as those with appointments. Same-day appointments are available.
The staff at the clinic includes a family nurse practitioner, Nina Williams Herring, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, who has nearly eight years of experience providing acute care, wellness exams and chronic disease management for diverse populations.
In addition, Ms. Herring has 15 years of experience in the mental health field, including as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She will be available at the South Padre Island clinic for screenings for anxiety and depression — as well as management of mental health medications.
Ms. Herring previously served as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Shiloh Residential Treatment Center in Manvel, in the Houston area, as well as at Signify Health in Dallas and at Georgetown Behavioral Health near Austin.
In addition, she previously served as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at LEI Behavioral Services and at Nexus Physician’s Services in Houston, and as Adjunct Professor / Clinical Instructor at the Texas Women’s University Nelda C. Stark College of Nursing in Houston.
Ms. Herring received a post-master’s certification as a Psychiatric / Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, as well as a Master’s Degree in Nursing / Family Practice Nurse Practitioner from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, where she received an award for “Humanitarian of the Class”.
“We are excited about the Family Wellness Clinic at South Padre Island, and look forward to serving the residents and visitors of the Island / Laguna Madre area with their healthcare needs,” Ms. Herring said. “From preventative screenings and annual physicals, to managing chronic conditions and providing specialized care, our team of experienced healthcare professionals is here to support you and every member of the family, through every stage of life.”
