New accessible swing added to Gibson Park in Weslaco

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Weslaco celebrated the grand reveal of a new accessible swing at Gibson Park.

Shawn Pompa says the swing will allow people with disabilities, including her son Evan, to be included.

"It's just so nice to see that people care about making sure everybody has a place to belong and feel included," Pompa said.

Cora Ford, president of FCCLA at Weslaco High School, says the swing project has been in the works throughout the school year.

"All year we've dedicated to the mission of bringing this piece of equipment that will be for multi-generational use and also include every person," Ford said.

Ford says Evan was the inspiration behind the swing project.

"Seeing all that hard work pay off and how joyful he was made the whole year worth it," Ford continued. " It's such an amazing moment seeing how joyful Evan was and how much of an exciting moment it was for all of his friends."
