MCALLEN, Texas – The president of Futuro RGV has resigned her position and been named president emeritus of the organization.

Nedra Kinerk founded Futuro McAllen as a civic engagement group in 1999. It later became a nonprofit and changed its name to Futuro RGV.

Kinerk’s resignation came at the group’s most recent board meeting. She was replaced as president by college professor Mark Murray.

“Futuro RGV has been very important to me. It has been a blessing, I think, to me personally and to many, many, people in our community,” Kinerk said.

“I have appreciated all that my board has done and all that my advisors have done, and sponsors. You have been marvelous. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you.”

During the board meeting, the directors unanimously agreed to name a student scholarship program Futuro runs in honor of Kinerk. It is to be called the Dr. Nedra S. Kinerk Emerging Leadership Scholarship.

Kinerk is a retired university professor and past recipient of the Woman of the Year award by McAllen Chamber of Commerce.

Here is a video recording that features an interview with Murray and the moment Kinerk hands over the gavel to Murray:
