Museum of South Texas History CEO asks Valley leaders about narrative building

EDINBURG, Texas – Francisco Guajardo, CEO of the Museum of South Texas History, has asked Rio Grande Valley leaders what the region’s narrative should be going forward.

Guajardo pitched his question during the Q&A portion of the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s recent “State of the RGV” event.

The event was held at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance and on the panel were Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., Starr County Judge Eloy Vera, and Willacy County Commissioner Ernie Garcia.

“The question would be, for all of them, about narrative building,” Guajardo said.

“So, as you know, more than 100 years ago, somebody, a number of people, branded this place, the Magic Valley. It was a compelling and attractive kind of brand and narrative. And I heard pieces of, One Region, One Voice, and that sounds good.

“But I’m curious to know what the thinking is from each of the four of you about how you would imbue, somehow, what this place is essentially about as part of a narrative that can be attractive and compelling as we think about ourselves for the next, whatever, 100 years, perhaps?”

Two of the four panelists took a shot at answering the question – Judge Treviño and Judge Cortez.

Here is a video recording of what they said:
