MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Mission resident was arrested in connection to a New Year's Day crash that killed a 14-year-old girl.
Jose Cordero, 23, was arrested on five counts of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
Cordero is accused of striking a vehicle after midnight on New Year's Day.
DPS says Cordero was driving northbound on a southbound lane at a high speed when he crashed into a Toyota Sequoia.
The Toyota was occupied by four people.
One passenger of the Toyota, 14-year-old Ashley Fuentes, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota has been released from the hospital. Two Toyota passengers remain in stable condition at the hospital.
Cordero was arrested following his release from the hospital.
He remains transported in Hidalgo County Jail with a $170,000 bond.
DPS Troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash.
