McAllen SHINES recognizes Alonzo Cantu for contributions to city

The city of McAllen and McAllen Public Work’s city-wide initiative, “McAllen SHINES,” recognized its first Community Champion on Friday during a ceremony at PNC Bank in McAllen.

Alonzo Cantu, chairman of the board for Lone Star National Bank, was honored for his outstanding leadership and beautification of McAllen business spaces.

“It is with great pride that we honor Alonzo Cantu as the first recipient of the McAllen SHINES Community Champion award,” McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos said prior to the ceremony. “His unwavering commitment to enhancing the beauty of McAllen’s business spaces is a testament to his leadership and dedication to our city. Alonzo’s work exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and civic pride that McAllen SHINES is all about, and we are grateful for his ongoing contributions to making McAllen a better place for all.”

McAllen SHINES is a city-wide initiative focused on promoting cleanliness, respect and civic pride throughout the community. Its mission is to engage citizens, businesses and city departments in collaborative efforts to keep McAllen beautiful, vibrant and welcoming.
