MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen Salvation Army announced it will be open Wednesday as a shelter for anyone in need during Tropical Storm Alberto.
The Salvation Army's news release said its daily intake hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and will extend hours after 8 p.m. temporarily for inclement weather Wednesday through Friday.
The shelter is asking clients to follow these guidelines:
- Valid ID will be requested but not required
- Sex offenders are not allowed
- Weather clients are asked to bring their medications, pillow, blanket, and towels
- Be able to perform their activities of daily living without assistance
- Not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, not behave erratically or aggressively for everyone’s safety
- No pets
Cots will be utilized for inclement weather clients. On Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. shelter guests and inclement weather clients can sit in the community dining room.
Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weather clients can sit in the office lobby.
Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 6 p.m.
