MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen Public Library invited the community to its third annual Family Health Fair on Saturday.
During the fair, healthcare providers gave free screenings for various health needs, including blood pressure checks, hemoglobin and glucose tests, among other exams.
"Community members would come to us for different information or resources. So we tried to connect the public to the organizations with sources and programs they need," said Claudia Villarreal-Quiroz, reference supervisor for the McAllen Public Library.
Participants got the chance to meet with community groups that promoted wellness activities. Library staff said they often get asked about these types of issues and want to help families understand the value of health and well-being.
