Mayor Villalobos offers safety tips for hurricane season

2 months ago 67

MCALLEN, Texas – McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos has participated in a public service announcement to give safety tips in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm.

Villalobos did so with meteorologists still unsure if Hurricane Beryl will reach the Rio Grande Valley region. Currently battering the Yucatan Peninsula, Beryl is expected to continue on its eastward path across the Gulf of Mexico over the next three days, reaching landfall again in the early hours of Monday.

Villalobos told residents to avoid driving during a hurricane or tropical storm if at all possible. If a resident does have to drive, do not go around barricades, he said.

Villalobos also told residents to keep plenty of drinkable water in their home, along with medicines, batteries and non-perishable food.

Never run a generator inside a home, Villalobos said, and protect pets by bringing them inside.

“Stay safe this hurricane season,” Villalobos concluded.
