Man charged in uncle's death over roosters gets $2M bond

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The man accused in the fatal shooting of his uncle has been charged with capital murder and given a $2 million bond.

Aaron Cervantes, 21, went before Justice of the Peace Jerry Muñoz Monday afternoon. Cervantes was charged in the death of his uncle Fernando Madrid, 54.

Early Thursday morning, Hidalgo County deputies responded to the 5700 block of Doffing Road, in rural Mission, about someone with a gunshot wound.

When deputies arrived they detained two men who were located outside the residence.

Family members told authorities that somebody was shot inside the residence. It was determined the person shot was Madrid.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office, Cervantes and another family member arrived at the residence to take some roosters Cervantes claimed belonged to him. 

When Cervantes began to remove the roosters from the property, he was confronted by his uncle.

Authorities said the two got into an argument and Cervantes shot Madrid.
