Man assaults spouse with hammer, gets 25 years in prison

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Harlingen man who was accused of assaulting his spouse with a hammer was sentenced to prison, according to Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz.

Thomas Mauro Vasquez was sentenced to 25 years in prison for domestic violence which left his spouse with serious bodily injuries.

District Attorney Saenz emphasized the safety of domestic violence victims and holding offenders accountable.

"Domestic violence has no place in our community," Saenz said. "We will continue to pursue justice for victims and ensure that offenders like Thomas Mauro Vasquez face the full consequences of their actions. This sentence sends a clear message: violence against family members will not be tolerated in Cameron County."
