PRIMERA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man who was arrested in January for allegedly recording the sexual abuse of a child is now facing federal charges, records show.

Rosendo Camarillo-Jimenez was initially arrested by Primera police on charges of aggravated sexual assault, continuous sexual abuse of a child and sexual performance of a child.

On Monday morning, Camarillo-Jimenez made his initial appearance in federal court after he was indicted on a charge of sexual exploitation of a child, records show.

On Jan. 26, Primera police, along with Homeland Security Investigations, executed a search warrant at a residence on Kika De La Garza Circle. Officers arrested Camarillo-Jimenez at the residence, and transported him to the police department where an interview was conducted.

During the interview, Camarillo-Jimenez said he had videotaped a child while he "touched" them, but the child was clothed, a criminal complaint stated.

"Camarillo stated it was many years ago and he believed the video may still be in the residence, but he was unsure exactly where it was located," the document stated.

While searching the residences, agents found homemade videos of a man sexually abusing a child who was approximately 8 or 9 years old. The child was identified as the same person who had reported to Primera police that she had been sexually abused as a child, the complaint continued.

According to authorities, Camarillo-Jimenez was identified as as the man recording himself abusing the child.

At a news conference in January, Primera Police Chief Manuel Trevino said the victim in the case was courageous for coming forward to police.

"Our goal here is, yes, to make the arrest and to get a good case, whether it's on a state or federal level," Trevino said. "But it's also to try to help a victim start their healing. We understand it's a small step for them, but we want to be able to start that healing for them. It's our number one goal."

Camarillo-Jimenez remains jailed in federal custody without bond.
