EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man accused of assaulting and leaving cigarette burns on his girlfriend's body is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, Edinburg police say.
Jorge Luis Ramos, 43, is being charged with unlawful restraint, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a 1st-degree felony, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a 2nd-degree felony and seven counts of assault on a pregnant woman.
At approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, authorities responded to an apartment on the 1500 block of N. Sugar Road, in reference to a disturbance reported by a third party.
According to a news release from the Edinburg Police Department, at the scene, 43-year-old Jorge Luis Ramos told police everything was fine.
He reported to police that a few days earlier, an unknown man had assaulted his 25-year-old girlfriend.
During the investigation, authorities spoke with the woman, who they say had visible bruising and swelling to her face and cigarette burns on her body.
The investigation revealed that Ramos was the person who allegedly assaulted the woman. Officers placed Ramos under arrest and the victim was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
According to the release, Edinburg Police Department detectives uncovered that Ramos held the victim against her will and was inflicting serious harm.
On Thursday, Dec. 5, Ramos was arraigned at the Edinburg Municipal Court and received a $150,000 bond.
Ramos is scheduled to be arraigned at 3:30 p.m. Monday where he will face additional charges.
