CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville LGBTQ+ Task Force and the South Texas Equality Project kick off Pride Month with community celebrations.
The Brownsville LGBTQ+ Task Force celebrated the start of Pride Month with its annual pride flag-raising event at the City Plaza Courtyard in Brownsville.
"It means a lot not just to me but the whole LGBTQ community in Brownsville and the Valley," said Cesar Villarreal, chairman of the Brownsville LGBTQ+ Task Force. "This event means we are visible and represented in a good way."
The South Texas Equality Project event took place at the Hilton Garden Inn, which featured 30 community partners who shared resources, information, and a presentation of LGBTQ+ youth scholarships.
The celebration also included music, an LGBTQ+ history exhibit and speeches from various organization leaders.
