RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — As temperatures are expected to drop next week, warming shelters across the Rio Grande Valley are preparing to open for those in need of a warm place to stay.
Hidalgo County
Mission Parks and Recreation Building
The City of Mission is opening a warming shelter at the Mission Parks and Recreation Building located at 721 N. Bryan Road from Monday at 6 p.m. to Wednesday at 9 a.m.
The city urges guests to bring water, snacks, pillows, blankets, medications and toiletry items. An ID is required for entry and pets are not allowed.
First Baptist Church Weslaco
The First Baptist Church of Weslaco is opening its doors to those in need of a warm place to stay. The church is located at 600 S. Kansas Avenue and will be taking in guests from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Guests are urged to bring medications, a photo ID and a change of clothes. The shelter is providing bedding and showers. No pets, weapons, alcohol, or controlled substances are allowed.
Willacy County
Willacy County Sheriff's Office
In anticipation of cold weather, the Willacy County Sheriff's Office will be open to those in need of a warm place to stay beginning Sunday from 5 p.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
Authorities urge those to call its 24-hour dispatch line at (956) 689-5576 for those in need of transportation to the sheriff's office.
