List of places to drop-off, recycle Christmas trees

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The day after Christmas is a time where people begin to set down their holiday decorations and prepare for the new year.

Not sure what to do with your Christmas tree? Several cities are offering recycling options.

Brownsville

The Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department is opening two locations for residents to drop-off and recycle Christmas trees.

Starting Dec. 26, residents will be able to drop their trees at Gonzalez Park and Oliviera Park.

Residents are asked to remove decorations from the tree including lights, ornaments, tinsel, ribbons, snow and garland.

Trees can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The last day to drop-off a Christmas tree is Jan. 15.

South Padre Island

Sea Turtle Inc. at South Padre Island is collecting Christmas trees for dune restoration.

Each year, Sea Turtle Inc. collects Christmas trees to help build dunes and protect the sea turtle corral.

Trees will be collected at Sea Turtle Inc. headquarters from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 26 through Jan. 4.

All donated trees should be free of tinsel and decorations before they are dropped off.

Sea Turtle Inc. is located on 6617 Padre Blvd.
