List: Holiday events postponed, canceled due to weather

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Several holiday parades and events lined up this weekend have been postponed due to the cold and rainy weather forecast.

The following is a list of city holiday events that have been postponed.

South Padre Island

The island's annual Christmas Street Parade has been postponed to next weekend, according to city officials.

"Moving the street parade would allow participants, families, and friends to make beautiful memories in a more comfortable environment," the city announced in a press release.

The annual street parade has been postponed for 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13.

SPI Mayor Patrick McNulty says the Lighted Boat Parade is still scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.

Edinburg

The City of Edinburg has postponed two of its holiday events due to the weather.

"In light of the current weather conditions and to ensure the safety of our children and participants, we have made the decision to reschedule the annual Night of Lights Parade as well as the Edinburg Fire Department's Santa and Sirens event," the city announced.

Both events will be postponed to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.

The parade route will remain the same.

Night of Lights will be in Downtown Edinburg.

Santa and Sirens will be at Promenade Park Amphitheater located on 202 N. 10th Ave., also in Downtown Edinburg.

San Benito

San Benito's Christmas on the Resaca has been rescheduled to Saturday.

"Good news – the show is still on, but it’s been rescheduled," the city of San Benito announced on a social media post. "We’ve got a music lineup, amazing vendors with food, drinks, and holiday treats!"

The free holiday event will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7 at Heavin Memorial Park located on 705 N. Bowie St.

Harlingen

Harlingen announced its A Groovy Christmas parade has been rescheduled to next week.

The new date is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

"Thank you so much for your patience and understanding hopefully we’ll see you all next Friday," the city announced.

Mercedes

The annual Gingerbread Christmas Lighted Parade in Mercedes has been canceled.

"Sadly, today's Christmas Parade is cancelled due to the weather. Stay safe, everyone," the city announced.

Brownsville

Brownsville has canceled its Market Square Tree Lighting Ceremony until further notice, the city announced.

The event was initally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6 as part of the city's First Friday.
