RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Cities across the Rio Grande Valley are gearing up for the upcoming Indepence Day celebrations. Here are a few spots you can check out this week.

Cameron County

Brownsville

  • The City of Brownsville is hosting its annual 4th of July Salute to Freedom event at 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, at the Brownsville Sports Park, located at 1000 Sports Park Boulevard. The free event will include live music, a car show, food, vendors, sponsor booths and a firework show.

South Padre Island

  • The Puro Fierro 956 Festival is taking place at noon on Saturday, July 6 at the Cameron County Amphitheater and Event Center, located at 33174 State Park Road 100.

Hidalgo County

Alamo

  • The City of Alamo is hosting its Freedom Bash festival from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m, on Wednesday, July 3, at the Alamo Sports Complex. The festival will feature kiddie rides, live music, a food beer garden and a firework show.

Donna

  • Red River Farms is hosting a 4th of July Fireworks on the Farm celebration from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. The event will take place on 777 W I-H2 in Donna. The celebration will feature music, burgers, hot dogs, waterslides and more. Free parking will be available. A firework show will start at Sundown.

Edinburg

  • The City of Edinburg is hosting its annual Texas Cook'em: High Stakes event just in time for the Fourth of July celebrations. The event will be held on July 6, at the Ebony Hills Golf Club and will feature live music, attractions, the largest steak cook-off in the Valley and a free live concert. The Josh Abbott Band will be headlining the event.

McAllen

  • The McAllen Parks and Recreation alongside the McAllen Marathon Committee is hosting its Independence Day 4k run. This event is part of its year-round McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Running Series, which began in May. The run will take place on July 4. Participants can pick up their packates at the Town Lake Firemen's Park Pumphouse located at 201 N. 1st Street.
  • The City of McAllen is celebrating Indepence Day with its 96th annual Freedom Festival, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a performace from the McAllen Town Band, followed by the Main Street parade at 9 a.m. The Freedom Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. followed by a firework show.

Mission

  • The City of Mission is hosting its 4th of July Red, White and Blue Festival starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at the Mission Event Center, locate at 200 North Shary Road.

Peñitas

  • The Peñitas 4th of July Celebration is taking place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, at 100 23rd Street. The free event will feature live music, a carnival, moonjumps, vendors, food, drinks, a mechanical bull, petting zoo, and a firework show.

Pharr

  • The City of Pharr is celebrating the 4th of July with an Independence Day Festival. The event be held from 7 to 11 p.m. on Thursday at the Allen & William Arnold City/School Park, located at 615 W Eldora Road. The festival will include food, live music, a petting zoo, carnival and a fireworks show.

San Juan

  • The City of San Juan is hosting a free 4th of July celebration from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 at the San Juan Muncipal Park, located at 506 US-83 Bus. The event will feature live music, wrestling, kids rides, water slides, a firework show and more. Those interested in bringing their own BBQ pit can reserve a free space by calling (956) 223-2350.
  • The Spot San Juan is hosting an Independance Day celebration starting at 6 p.m. on July 5. It will take place on Alta Street and Raul Longoria Road and will feature food trucks live music and is a pet friendly enviorment. The celebration is free. Pinic seating is welcome.

Weslaco

  • The Weslaco Stars and Stripes Festival and Drone Show will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, on Downtown Weslaco, located at S. Texas Boulevard. The event is free and open to the public.
