La Joya announces water conservation plan due to excessive heat

LA JOYA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of La Joya advises residents to help conserve water amidst the excessive heat warning during the Memorial Day weekend.

On Friday, city officials announced the city was without water due to the line break. Moments later, the city announced that services were restored, just over two hours after the initial post was announced.

Water restored in La Joya, boil water notice issued

In the update, the city notified all public water system customers to boil their water prior to consumption.

“Children, seniors and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions,” the release stated.

The city stated that water should be brought to a “vigorous rolling boil,” and then boiled for two minutes.

City of Rio Hondo announces water conservation plan

On Saturday, city officials advised residents to help conserve water and avoid further restrictions.

Residents are advised of the following:

  • Watering lawns only in the early morning or late evening
  • Taking shorter showers
  • Fixing any leaky faucets or pipes
  • Turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth

The post stated, with the community's help they can maintain its water supply and prevent the need for stricter measures.
