EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez was one of the panelists at the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 State of the RGV forum.

The event was held at Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance.

In his opening remarks, Cortez spoke about the Prosperity Task Force he set up.

Cortez said the Prosperity Task Force is “simply a partnership of counties, cities, school districts, nonprofit organizations, individuals, businesses, put together to accomplish basically a couple of things. One, we want to identify the people that need that training, need that education. We want to give them a path so that they can earn a better wage.”

The other thing the task force wants to achieve, Cortez said, to bring better paying jobs to the region. “So, in order for us to fulfill our desire and our goal to help as many people as we can, we also have to be good at economic development and creation. That’s where infrastructure, that’s where other things come in.”
