It’s finally happening, Valley folks.
Whether you’re looking to try the iconic Swedish meatballs, living out fantasies in the display rooms, or simply looking for affordable furniture, you won’t have to travel outside the Rio Grande Valley anymore.
IKEA U.S. will be opening a store at the Pharr Town Center, located at 500 N. Jackson Rd, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation registration filing last Thursday.
The store will take up two of the suites at the shopping center, totalling 44,140 square feet.
Construction on the $4.5 million project is set to begin June 2, with the record showing an Aug. 18 completion date.
“Renovation includes minor demolition work, new partitions, new ceiling and lighting, new plumbing fixtures and showroom display,” the record stated. “New Kitchen area with serving and seating area.”
The IKEA Pharr location will be a first for the Valley, with the Live Oak location more than 230 miles away no longer being the nearest store for the region. Prior to the registration for the Pharr location, IKEA’s only tie to the Valley was a pick-up location in McAllen.
In addition to the recently announced San Marcos small store unit, the Pharr location will be the 10th IKEA store in Texas.
