A Mexican citizen residing in Houston was sentenced on Thursday for his role in a conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 80 gallons of liquid meth in 2018, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

Abiel Gudino-Garcia, 59, pleaded guilty on Aug. 26 and was sentenced to 8 years in federal prison.

At the hearing, the court learned that Gudino claimed he had purchased diesel but changed his tune when confronted with overwhelming evidence, the release said.

In April 2018, Gudino planned a meeting with drug traffickers in Houston in order to obtain 80 gallons of liquid meth, but the shipment had been intercepted and seized by authorities in the Rio Grande Valley.

Gudino then arrived at the meeting location with empty gasoline tanks and $15,000 for the purchase of the liquid meth.

According to the release, an undercover law enforcement member posed as the trafficker and handed Gudino what he believed to be the meth.

Once the exchange was done, authorities followed Gudino to his home and detained him as part of their ongoing investigation.
