BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Former state Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., has provided turkeys to the most needy of Brownsville residents at Thanksgiving for decades.
To the delight of his regulars, he kept the tradition going even when he retired two years ago.
This year, however, he has found a willing ally. State Sen.-elect Adam Hinojosa, who will soon take over the Senate District 27 seat Lucio held for many years, has agreed to keep providing the service.
The Rio Grande Guardian interviewed Lucio and Hinojosa as they started to give away over 1,000 turkeys. Lucio said he has high hopes for Hinojosa as a senator. Hinojosa said Lucio was like a father figure.
