Local Democratic state legislators held onto their respective seats in Districts 39 and 41 following Election Day results.
In District 39, longtime incumbent Armando “Mando” Martinez defeated Republican challenger Jimmie Garcia to continue representing the Mid-Valley.
Final results show that Martinez earned 26,921 votes, or 60.90% of the total vote, over Garcia’s 17,285 votes, or 39.10%
Martinez had previously defeated Garcia during the Nov. 8, 2022 General Election. Martinez earned 19,027 votes during that election, or 64.69%. Garcia earned 10,385 votes, or 35.31%.
In District 41, Democrat and incumbent R.D. “Bobby” Guerra faced off against Republican challenger and physician John Guerra, to represent McAllen and portions of Mission.
The incumbent Guerra earned 30,542 votes, or 53.45% of the total votes, over the challenger who earned 26,594 votes, or 46.55%.
This race was also a rematch from the Nov. 8, 2022 General Election, in which the Democratic candidate earned 22,352 votes, or 56.97% of the total votes, over his Republican challenger’s 16,883 votes, or 43.03%.
This year’s election also saw three Democratic incumbents running unopposed. State Reps. Oscar Longoria, District 35, Sergio Muñoz, District 36, and Terry Canales, District 40, all cruised to new terms with no challengers.
