EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney's Office and City of Pharr Emergency Medical Services hosted a "Safe Kids" Injury Prevention event on Monday.
The event aimed to provide injury prevention education for parents including ATV safety, bike safety, fire safety, car seat safety, gun safety, online safety, head injury prevention, suicide prevention and child abuse prevention for youths of all ages.
"About bikes, about wearing helmets, about drugs. Everything that could injure a child we're here. It's just a community service we're doing for all our kids around this area," said Hidalgo County District Attorney, Terry Palacios.
Numerous local organizations were in collaboration with the event such as Pharr Police Department, Pharr Fire Department, DHR Level 1 Trauma Department, South Texas Health Systems Trauma & Critical Care Department, Driscoll's Children's Hospital, Regional Justice Center, South Texas Health Systems Clinics, Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Department, Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, Prevention Awareness Team of Hidalgo County and United We Stand Texas.
The event also offered free turkeys, bike helmets, gun locks, child ID fingerprinting, and safety classes.
